A summer Broadway recital will be presented by participating students on July 26 at 6:30 p.m.

ACADEMY SUMMER, 2011 SESSION

Summer is a great time to devote to musical training and the Academy will offer private music lessons throughout the summer. Students who have worked on their instrument throughout the school year need to keep up their skills during the summer months so that progress will not be lost. Of course, we know that summer is family vacation time, so the Academy offers very flexible scheduling during the summer. The Summer, 2011 session will run June 13 - July 26. In addition to the MAGNIFICENT, MARVELOUS, MUSICAL MONDAYS described above we will also offer PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS in piano, voice, and guitar performance. The Academy voice staff is available to give high school singers a head start on audition music for the TEXAS ALL-REGION / ALL-STATE CHOIR audition process. KINDERMUSIK CLASSES will be offered for children ages birth - seven years.

WHAT IS THE SUZUKI METHOD?

Over fifty years ago, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, a classical violinist, developed a method of teaching children to play musical instruments in the same way that they learn to speak their native language. The Suzuki approach utilizes a collaborative effort of a "learning triangle" consisting of the student, teacher and parent. Children receive private lessons under the watchful eye of a caregiver. The caregiver, in turn, becomes the teacher during at home practice. Students come together weekly for group lessons to play in an ensemble setting with other students of similar age and experience. The parent's role in the learning triangle is to attend all lessons and classes with the child, and to serve as the "home teacher." The West Texas Music Academy offers both violin and piano training incorporating the Suzuki method. Rozanne Spires, trained Suzuki teacher will teach both private and class lessons.
